Xander pushes Bubby as she's bent over helping Ari. She almost falls over. Instead, she turns to Xander, raises her voice and tells him to never do that again.
Xander is taken aback. So Bubby leans over the couch where Xander is sitting, gets down on her knees and gently tells him that she loves him but sometimes doesn't like his behavior. That she always loves him.
She asks Xander if he understands to which he responds, "Yes, I understand. And I always love you, Bubby....even when I push and hit you."

Xander feels so secure in his and Bubby's mutual love and trust that he can play tricks on her. It's a precious feeling even when it becomes awkward. In his heart, Xander knows that Bubby is the Safest Place in the Whole World.
ReplyDeleteRemember, Michal, when you were about three years old and we took a small-boat ride at Disneyland and you sat on my lap and peed on me. As we were repairing ourselves in the ladies room afterward, I said, "Don't worry; accidents happen." And you mischievously replied: "It wasn't an accident, Savta. I did it on purpose." I was immediately struck by how secure you felt in my love for you that you could teasingly admit to playing a trick on me even after I had exonerated you. I hugged you and told you that you'd played that trick once too much. I guess you listened because you never did it again.
You were immediately struck by my *love* for you? Wow, you're nicer than I would be if my kid did that to me!
ReplyDeleteI think Savta was struck by you knowing how much she (Savta) loved you and that you felt secure in her love.
ReplyDeleteJust my take.....Just sayin
